About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the cloud runs smoothly. This role is part of a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers who collaborate to maintain the highest standards of safety and security while providing cost-effective capacity. The position involves working within a creative and efficient MEP BIM team to design complex projects for Amazon-owned Data Center facilities. The designer will support the Central Engineering Team by preparing Information Communications Technology (ICT/Telecom) and Physical Security BIM models, construction documents, and leveraging BIM data. Key areas of influence include Video Surveillance, Access Control, Intrusion Detection, CCTV, Lighting, and Cable pathways for Ethernet and fiber systems. The role requires producing, maintaining, and publishing permit Security & Telecom Engineering drawing sets for Data Centers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of physical security experience
  • Use of the following software tools: Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, and ACC Forma for cloud hosting models.
  • 3+ years’ experience using Revit for producing Physical Security and/or Telecom engineering BIM models and construction drawings.
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of Physical Security & Telecom codes and safety regulations.
  • Practical knowledge of BICSI standards.
  • Experience in implementing physical security measures, such as secure zones, CCTV systems, perimeter security, intrusion detection systems, and emergency response protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers
  • Experience with process design based on Lean Principles
  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD)
  • BICSI member
  • Practical knowledge of BICSI standards, specifically BICSI TDMM AND BICSI-002 DATA CENTER STANDARDS
  • Experience with developing Revit Family content.

Responsibilities

  • Designing the physical security and telecom systems of Data Centers.
  • Utilizing Revit to create and maintain BIM models.
  • Working independently and within a team environment to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Collaborating with internal groups, external suppliers, consultants, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Preparing and developing detailed Revit models of Security & Telecom building systems.
  • Developing & publishing construction documentation for Security & Telecom building systems designs in a fast-paced environment to meet scheduled deliverables.
  • Updating and modifying existing models and construction documents as required.
  • Assisting with creating and maintaining standard regional BIM templates.
  • Participating in design coordination meetings with other trades for clash detection and resolution.
  • Working on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
  • Assisting the project team with information exchange processes between internal and external customers.
  • Providing coordination support for information requests during construction phases.
  • Recording and reporting of key metrics to management.
  • Traveling to Data Center sites for engineering evaluations and surveys as required (on average once or twice a year).
  • Offering creative, out-of-the-box solutions.
  • Collaborating across disciplines and teams to refine data center designs.
  • Creating detailed models, drawings, specifications, and prototypes.
  • Updating managers and leaders of changes to the building design.
  • Engaging in design discussions and reviewing feedback from peers and collaborators.
  • Adjusting designs to ensure data center solutions meet high standards of efficiency and quality.
