About The Position

Priority Waste, headquartered in Clinton Township, Michigan, provides waste hauling services and has experienced rapid growth since its founding in 2018, continually expanding its workforce. The company operates out of several facilities, including two transfer stations, offering diversified services to municipal solid-waste, construction, and demolition customers. Priority Waste prioritizes the customer experience through its fleet of residential, roll-off, and front-load trucks and containers. In this role as a Heavy Duty Machinery Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing repairs and maintenance on refuse vehicles and heavy machinery. This includes, but is not limited to, vehicle refuse bodies and control systems, air brake systems, suspension, steering, hydraulics, electrical systems, general engine work, HVAC components, drivetrain, and chassis components.

Requirements

  • Understands work orders and labor time standards
  • Experience with maintenance to be performed on refuse trucks and heavy machinery
  • Minimum two years experience as a heavy-duty technician
  • Must be able to perform basic inspections of the following: brakes, drivetrain, emissions, hydraulics, transmissions, general engine, steering and suspension
  • Excels in a collaborative environment (team player)

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial Driver's License is a plus but not required
  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certifications are a plus but not required

Responsibilities

  • Keeps up on maintenance of vehicles and equipment
  • Performs engine repair and maintenance
  • Performs welding and fabrication
  • Scans trucks and troubleshoots mechanical issues using electronic tools
  • Performs electrical repairs
  • Assists with DOT inspections
  • Completes oil changes and greasing trucks/equipment
  • Repairs tires, including replacement when necessary
  • Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles to enable minimal downtime
  • Safely executes road service calls when necessary to ensure the equipment is being returned in a safe manner
  • Troubleshoots emissions issues
  • Actively problem solves
  • Executes work orders and turns into Maintenance Supervisor for company records
