About The Position

Oaklawn is seeking a talented Mechanic to join their team. The Mechanic will perform mechanical work on vehicles and equipment at the highest skill level. This role involves analyzing test results, diagnosing equipment problems, documenting downtime and repair costs, and performing routine maintenance. The ideal candidate will have strong safety awareness, quality orientation, adaptability, and teamwork skills.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED; VOTECH Certificate of completion of Maintenance Mechanic program.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Ability to lead others in troubleshooting and emergency repairs.
  • Ability to develop and implement planned preventive maintenance programs for equipment.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow safety procedures.
  • Must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have acceptable driving history as determined by Oaklawn Jockey Club.
  • Must complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years of production maintenance mechanic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical work on vehicles and equipment at the highest skill level.
  • Analyze test results, machine error messages, and information obtained from operators to diagnose equipment problems.
  • Assist with documentation of down time, costs to repair, and other data information as needed.
  • Observe and test the operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using voltmeters and other testing devices.
  • Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.
  • Assemble, install and/or repair wiring, electrical and electrical components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
  • Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs.
  • Be aware of conditions that affect employee safety.
  • May be required to take additional safety courses related to job tasks.
  • Accomplish tasks by considering all areas involved, no matter how small; showing concern for all aspects of the job; accurately checking processes and tasks; being watchful over a period of time.
  • Maintain effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work tasks or the work environment; adjust effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures.
  • Work effectively with team/work group or those outside the formal line of authority to accomplish organizational goals; take actions that respect the needs and contributions of others; contribute to and accept the consensus; subordinate own objectives to the objectives of the organization or team.
