About The Position

The Mechanic position is within the Properties Division and is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and creating training checklists for all motorized vehicles and equipment used by Mohonk Mountain House/Smiley Brothers, Inc. This role requires maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area, including storage facilities and shop areas. The scope of work includes a wide variety of vehicles and equipment such as cars, trucks, trailers, tractors, construction equipment (dozers, loaders, etc.), snowmobiles, trail groomers, small power equipment (pumps, mowers, etc.), golf course equipment (reel mowers, aerators, etc.), and generators. The Mechanic will also assist the Parks department with snowplowing and other construction tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License and at least 21 years of age, or 20 years of age with at least two years of licensed driving experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with maintenance and repair of vehicles and construction equipment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge on how to repair and troubleshoot gasoline, diesel, and battery operated vehicles.
  • Basic knowledge of golf course maintenance equipment and its operation.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems on equipment.
  • Proficiency with Windows-based operating systems and use software including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook.
  • Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write the English language and communicate in a clear and congenial manner.
  • Ability to hear verbal instructions, directions, and warnings.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds from ground level to 3.5 feet and 20 pounds from ground level to overhead, and carry a distance of up to 100 feet with/without assistance.
  • Ability to walk up to 15 miles per day.
  • Ability to reach with two hands and arms, bend, kneel, stoop, twist and flex arms, walk up and down stairs/inclines, sit, climb up/down ladders or stand for up to 5 hours at a time.
  • Ability to see close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to see colors so as to recognize visual indicators.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with a variety of people.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain all vehicles and equipment used by Smiley Brothers, Inc. Mohonk Mountain House.
  • Inspect and survey all motorized vehicles and equipment monthly to determine the need for repair or replacement.
  • Keep up a system of vehicles/equipment records, including inventory of parts and a preventative maintenance program.
  • Aid with the vehicle and equipment purchasing process.
  • Maintain records of licenses and safety inspections of over-the-road vehicles/equipment.
  • Keep an inventory of supplies needed, obtain quotes, prepare and track purchase requests, and reorder supplies when low.
  • Maintain records and perform regular vehicle inspections coordinated with other departments monthly.
  • Select, match, and fabricate parts and materials required to complete assigned projects.
  • Perform minor auto body repairs.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with outside vendors, including body shops, heavy equipment repair companies, light and heavy truck shops, part suppliers, and recovery/tow businesses.
  • Use a computer type system to keep track of vehicle/equipment services, repair, and condition.
  • Perform inventory control and maintain order of all parts and materials used in the repair and maintenance of SBI vehicles and equipment.
  • Clearly communicate results of efforts completed and in progress daily.
  • Use all types of power and hand tools safely.
  • Read and comprehend technical manuals, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Demonstrate ability to learn and utilize new methods, materials, procedures, and systems.
  • Drive automatic and standard transmission vehicles in a safe and legal manner.
  • Assist with snow removal.
  • Be on call to work during all systems shutdown or repairs.
  • Keep shop area clean, organized, presentable, and safe.
  • Handle hazardous materials as needed in the course of normal operations in a safe and workmanlike manner in accordance with applicable regulations.
