About The Position

The Vehicle Maintenance Apprentice performs entry-level preventive maintenance, inspections, and basic repairs while learning the skills necessary to become a fully qualified Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic. Under the guidance of experienced mechanics, this position assists with maintaining Loveland Ski Area's fleet of buses, snowcats, heavy equipment, snowmobiles, ATVs/UTVs, trailers, and support vehicles. The Apprentice develops technical skills through hands-on training while supporting safe, reliable, and efficient mountain operations year-round. As experience is gained, the Apprentice will receive training and assist with snow removal operations in support of mountain operations. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • No previous professional vehicle maintenance experience is required.
  • Mechanical experience gained through employment, technical training, military service, personal mechanical projects, or related hands-on experience is preferred.
  • Experience working safely with hand and power tools is preferred.
  • Possession of (or ability to obtain) a valid Colorado Driver’s License, with an acceptable driving record.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and an interest in learning vehicle, diesel, and heavy equipment maintenance.
  • Willingness to learn diagnostic techniques, preventive maintenance procedures, and equipment repair methods.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions while demonstrating attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
  • Strong work ethic with a dependable attendance record and commitment to completing assigned tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team while maintaining a positive and professional attitude.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize assigned work, remain organized, and adapt to changing operational needs.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.

  • Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to use Microsoft Outlook for email and communication.
  • Ability to learn and use computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), fleet maintenance software, work order systems, and electronic timekeeping systems.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push/pull up to 100 pounds and work in indoor and outdoor environments subject to varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing, including the ability to speak, understand, read, and write effectively.
  • Physically demanding position, often performing heavy lifting, pushing, pulling in adverse weather conditions at high altitude.

Responsibilities

  • Assist mechanics with preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and servicing of vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance including lubrication, fluid changes, filters, batteries, tires, and basic adjustments.
  • Assist in diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and fuel system issues under the supervision of experienced mechanics.
  • Maintain shop cleanliness and organize tools, equipment, and parts inventory.
  • Safely operate shop equipment and assist with equipment movement and transportation.
  • Conduct early morning snow stake measurements and assist with snow removal operations during winter as assigned to prepare the ski area for daily operations.
  • Complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately.
  • Participate in safety training and comply with DOT, OSHA, environmental, and company policies.
  • May assist other departments with projects, operational support, and special assignments as business needs dictate.
