About The Position

The Mechanic works in the Municipal Garage-DPW, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing trucks, heavy construction equipment, automobiles, and other power equipment. Duties include repairing engines, ignition systems, fuel tanks, and electrical systems; disassembling and overhauling engines and transmissions; replacing components such as clutches; and performing preventive maintenance, including brake adjustments. Other related duties may be assigned. The work schedule is Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m>

Requirements

• At least five years of experience working as a mechanic.
• Commercial Inspector’s License, properly qualified under 540 CMR 4.08(1)(h), with an air-conditioning refrigerant endorsement.
• Valid motor equipment license – CDL.
• Personal hand tools.
• Some knowledge of welding and experience with gasoline engines.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair late-model automobiles with electric fuel injection and antilock brakes.

Nice To Haves

• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification.
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.

Responsibilities
