About The Position

Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of Wilmington is seeking a Mechanic who will coordinate and perform activities related to the maintenance and repair of cemetery equipment including inspecting all vehicle engines and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately in addition to conducting routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts, etc.) aiming to improve vehicle functionality and longevity. The schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, but may occasionally require days or times outside the normal work schedule.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
A minimum of five years’ relevant experience
Possess a knowledge of the fundamentals of small engine repair and basic electronics
Possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record
Ability to build trust and rapport with individuals from diverse cultural, socio-economic, and ethnic backgrounds
Willingness to consent to a satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening in accordance with applicable laws

Responsibilities

Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts or systems such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering and hydraulics.
Completes machine shop operations.
Makes adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
Determined vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests: identifying worn and damaged parts.
Keeps equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles, completing preventative maintenance such as tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation, wheel balancing and replacing filters.
Maintains vehicle functional condition by listening to operator complaints, conducting inspections, repairing engine systems malfunctions, replacing parts and components, repairing body damage.
Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
Complies with all state and local vehicle requirements by testing engine safety and combustion control standards.
Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing and waxing.
Maintains vehicle records by recording service and repairs.
Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance and calling for repairs.
