About The Position

Under the direction of the Supervisor and/or Lead Maintenance Technician, the Wastewater Mechanic performs, plans, and organizes the maintenance of wastewater facilities and associated systems including, but not limited to, liquids treatment, solids handling, chemical systems, odor control, and lift stations. The Wastewater Mechanic performs a variety of work assignments to ensure acceptable asset condition and water quality and health and safety standards are met or exceeded.

Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Possess two (2) years of experience in industrial maintenance or a suitable combination of directly relevant education and experience, as determined by NTMWD.
  • Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Possess general knowledge of maintenance and reliability practices and principles and awareness of wastewater assets and their operation.
  • Possess the ability to troubleshoot equipment typically used in wastewater operations.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.
  • Maintains basic computer skills and become proficient at using a computerized maintenance management system to perform major responsibilities.
  • Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state.
  • Perform functions requiring manual dexterity and precision movements, continuous or repetitive arm and hand movements, grasping movements, and occasional forceful exertion.
  • Perceive/discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth and visual cues or signals.
  • Possess visual and muscular dexterity to operate a motor vehicle (including while towing portable equipment), equipment, hand tools, and a computer.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate degree or trade certification is preferred.
  • Preference is to obtain a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Wastewater or Water Treatment or Collection or Distribution System Operator's License.

Responsibilities

  • Performs predictive, preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance for facility assets. Work may also include rough carpentry, painting, plumbing, welding duties as required.
  • Trains, leads and mentors staff under the direction of supervisory staff. Leads by example. Acts as a positive role model for facility employees. Encourages an environment of Integrity, Trust, Respect, Unity, Safety, and Teamwork.
  • Creates and manages service requests and work orders for needed repairs.
  • Evaluates equipment condition and performance by observation and using inspection tools.
  • Prepares logs and records in both written and electronic form with accuracy and completeness.
  • Follows job plans and recommends revisions to job plans to ensure safe and consistent work practices.
  • Observes safety policies and guidelines as required by State statutes and as prescribed by NTMWD.
  • Monitors the facility for any breaches of security and alert appropriate law enforcement agencies and/or supervisors, as appropriate for the situation.
  • Monitors systems and assets during emergencies and scheduled shutdowns. Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and reports problems. Responds to emergencies. Schedules and coordinates responses, repairs, clean-up, and remediation as directed.
  • Maintains facility and work area housekeeping.
  • Receives shipments, monitors unloading processes, checks shipment documents for accuracy, and ensures documents are submitted to appropriate personnel.
  • Complies with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Assumes the responsibilities of direct supervisor(s) and subordinates as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
