About The Position

The City of Grand Junction is seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Plant Mechanic to join our Wastewater Team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining and repairing the mechanical systems and equipment that support the City’s wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, and related infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong mechanical troubleshooting abilities, experience working with pumps, motors, valves, and SCADA systems, and a commitment to safety, reliability, and teamwork. This position leads daily maintenance activities, supports preventative maintenance programs, coordinates with vendors and contractors, and helps ensure the continuous operation of essential public utilities infrastructure. Requirements

  • Five (5) years experience in the maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, and electrical systems.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized training in the areas of mechanical equipment maintenance and repair and SCADA systems.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, the City of Grand Junction Leadership Track certification within two (2) years of appointment.
  • This classification may also require possession of, or the ability to obtain, a certification from the Society for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals.
  • Some assignments in this classification may also require possession of, or the ability to obtain, Water/Wastewater Operator's D License and/or Collections/Distribution I, II, III and IV certificates.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • This position is a safety-sensitive position, which means you will be subject to random drug screens due to the nature of the work performed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate daily maintenance activities for wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and related facilities, including training and supporting maintenance staff.
  • Perform troubleshooting, repair, installation, and preventative maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, piping, hydraulic systems, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Program, maintain, and troubleshoot SCADA systems and other plant control systems to support reliable facility operations.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs and maintenance projects by ordering parts, maintaining inventory, working with vendors and contractors, and maintaining accurate maintenance records.
  • Respond to plant emergencies and after-hours maintenance issues as needed while ensuring work is completed safely and in compliance with applicable regulations and City standards.
