About The Position

The Mechanic Trainee will perform automotive inspections and repairs in keeping with Company standards. Mechanic Trainees learn how to repair vehicles through formal training sessions and hands-on work tasks supervised by auto mechanics. They will speak with employees to learn the nature of their vehicle problems and explain repair processes. This role involves creating written labor, time, and parts cost estimates for needed vehicle repairs, and ordering new parts for vehicles over the phone and online.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must have a current Driver’s License.
  • Have an interest in automobiles and mechanics of all types.
  • Possesses willingness to gain mechanical knowledge of cars and trucks.
  • Basic understanding of mechanics and engines
  • Ability to listen and absorb information, as well as the ability to relate information clearly to others.
  • Must work with many different types of tools, using them regularly while repairing vehicles.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform automotive inspections and repairs in keeping with Company standards.
  • Perform standard vehicle repairs on their own, tasks such as changing brake pads and rotors, replacing vehicle fluids, and replacing car batteries.
  • Use company-created automobile checklists to determine which repairs are needed on vehicles scheduled to be serviced.
  • Learn how to repair vehicles through formal training sessions and hands-on work tasks supervised by auto mechanics.
  • Create written labor, time, and parts cost estimates for needed vehicle repairs.
  • Test vehicles before and after the repair procedure.
  • Routinely disconnect batteries inside vehicles and hook them up to an in-shop testing device to determine their functionality.
  • Take apart car and truck engines, as well as other parts of the vehicle, such as sidewall panels and floorboards.
  • Order new parts for vehicles over the phone and online.
  • Speak with employees to learn the nature of their vehicle problems and explain repair processes.
  • Follow all environmental laws and procedures to which Smithfield subscribes.
  • Understand the company’s emergency notification process and review that policy at their work site.
  • Report all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.
