About The Position

St. Norbert College is seeking a Mechanical Systems Specialist to provide technical support and serve as primary backup for Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC Specialist roles. This position involves maintaining various building systems, performing routine inspections and preventive maintenance, and responding to facilities emergencies. The role also includes participation in on-call duties, snow removal, and utility locating programs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-4 years of proven knowledge and experience in the areas of boiler operations, electrical, HVAC, and general plumbing.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and customers, particularly in conflict situations.
  • Ability to multitask, meet specific deadlines, and prioritize tasks and assignments.
  • Skilled in basic math computations.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and make decisions expeditiously.
  • Skilled at setting a good example for others.
  • Skilled at organizing projects and seeing them through to completion.
  • Ability to concentrate and focus in a noisy environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Boiler operator's license is a plus.
  • Classes in HVAC control systems, basic electrical, and basic plumbing training.

Responsibilities

  • Test, maintain, and manage chemical treatment for all boilers on campus and manage condensate systems.
  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and testing of rooftop exhaust systems, air handling units, and other campus assets.
  • Maintain a variety of building systems and components, including mechanical and electrical systems, door hardware, key systems, and building finishes.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and other general maintenance, ensuring the college building remains in good condition and working order.
  • Complete work orders as assigned.
  • Respond to facilities emergencies on campus.
  • Maintain equipment records regarding condition and maintenance intervals.
  • Take part in the On-Call program.
  • Take part in the snow removal program when needed, by plow or snow broom.
  • Take part in the Diggers Hotline Locator program and be a resource for locating underground utilities for campus and/or contractors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and attend training.
