About The Position

This position is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on various types of diesel/heavy equipment to keep them in safe working condition. Will need to display a professional and courteous attitude with customers and team members. This role helps maintain and repair heavy equipment and trucks to keep them safe and working properly. You’ll work with a team to learn basic mechanical skills and assist with repairs. The typical schedule is Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Knife River is a PEOPLE-first company. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Interest in mechanics, diesel engines, or equipment repair
  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions
  • Valid driver’s license (or ability to obtain one)
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional overtime or weekends
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Some post-secondary education in the diesel technician field or related experience a plus.
  • CDL is a plus but not required

Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment
  • Help inspect equipment to find issues or needed repairs
  • Use tools and equipment safely (training provided)
  • Learn to read manuals and follow instructions for repairs
  • Help clean and organize the shop and work areas
  • Complete basic paperwork or repair logs with guidance
  • Work with team members and ask questions to build skills
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures
  • Responsible to provide own basic hand tools, pneumatics and some specialty tools. A tool allowance is available.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
