The City of Durham’s Department of Water Management (DWM) is seeking a Plant Maintenance Mechanic to join their team. This position is responsible for the maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants, dams, and lift stations. Employees will perform a broad range of paraprofessional work, from routine to specialized corrective and preventative maintenance. The role involves receiving work orders, stocking vehicles, performing mechanical maintenance and repairs on pumps, motors, gearboxes, and other equipment. Fabricating parts, repairing clarifiers, grit collectors, scum troughs, belt presses, and GBTs are also key responsibilities. The position requires testing and removing equipment for rebuilds, cleaning work areas, and utilizing welding, rigging, millwrighting, and various tools and machinery. Additionally, the role includes serving as an emergency standby responder on a rotating basis. The position may also involve ordering parts, communicating with technical representatives and OEM representatives, and performing office and operational support duties such as maintaining databases and records, and training lower-level staff.
