At our Valparaiso workshop, we refurbish and repair unique and specialized blast furnace equipment for our customers. We are currently looking for a mid-level (above entry-level) skilled mechanic to join our team and continue to grow with us.

Requirements

  • Prefer a minimum of three years of experience with refurbishment / reconditioning on parts in a job shop or similar environment
  • Knowledge of and prior experience in disassembly and assembly of mechanical parts is required
  • Knowledge of and prior experience in the use of hand and power tools is required
  • Ability to read prints and drawings is required
  • Ability to follow step-by-step procedures with accuracy is required
  • Candidate must have good interpersonal and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of machining and fabrication methods preferred
  • Knowledge of and prior experience in overhead crane and lift trucks, including hoisting and rigging techniques preferred
  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic & piping systems preferred
  • Knowledge of electrical systems (wiring motors and small panels) preferred
  • Education Requirements: Vocational or High School; Specialized Technical Training and/or on the job experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical duties on equipment as instructed
  • Disassemble, assemble and test equipment at the direction of the Workshop Manager
  • Perform fabrication of lightweight apparatus and/or structures used in the maintenance of equipment
  • Interface with project management, engineers, technical personnel and other staff as needed to complete projects.
  • Perform housekeeping and maintenance activities as required
  • Provide any additional support where needed
