At our Valparaiso workshop, we refurbish and repair unique and specialized blast furnace equipment for our customers. We are currently looking for a mid-level (above entry-level) skilled mechanic to join our team and continue to grow with us.

Requirements

Prefer a minimum of three years of experience with refurbishment / reconditioning on parts in a job shop or similar environment
Knowledge of and prior experience in disassembly and assembly of mechanical parts is required
Knowledge of and prior experience in the use of hand and power tools is required
Ability to read prints and drawings is required
Ability to follow step-by-step procedures with accuracy is required
Candidate must have good interpersonal and communication skills

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of machining and fabrication methods preferred
Knowledge of and prior experience in overhead crane and lift trucks, including hoisting and rigging techniques preferred
Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic & piping systems preferred
Knowledge of electrical systems (wiring motors and small panels) preferred
Education Requirements: Vocational or High School; Specialized Technical Training and/or on the job experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

Perform mechanical duties on equipment as instructed
Disassemble, assemble and test equipment at the direction of the Workshop Manager
Perform fabrication of lightweight apparatus and/or structures used in the maintenance of equipment
Interface with project management, engineers, technical personnel and other staff as needed to complete projects.
Perform housekeeping and maintenance activities as required
Provide any additional support where needed
