About The Position

The Mechanic & Maintenance Technician maintains and repairs vehicles, equipment, machinery, building systems, and facilities across Aleut Ventures operations on Adak Island, Alaska. This is a generalist maintenance role covering work at multiple island facilities, including hotels, mechanical spaces, vehicles, equipment, and outdoor areas. The role includes plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general facilities repairs, along with inspection, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and preventive maintenance.

The position follows a two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off rotation, with flexibility to work longer rotations to meet operational requirements. The employee is based onsite on Adak and should be comfortable working independently in a remote environment where weather, logistics, and available resources may require flexibility and practical problem-solving. The role also participates in Adak’s “One Team” model by cross-training and supporting other Aleut Ventures operations as needed.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of related mechanical, maintenance, facilities, or equipment-repair experience.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Completion of 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
• Valid Alaska driver’s license.
• Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within six months of hire.
• Ability to successfully complete required background and motor vehicle record checks.
• Ability to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Comfort working independently in a remote environment with changing conditions and available resources.

Nice To Haves

• Five or more years of progressive diesel mechanic, automotive, equipment-maintenance, or related mechanical experience.
• Experience performing facilities maintenance across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or general building systems.
• Prior military experience in maintenance, mechanics, engineering, logistics, facilities, transportation, or similar technical operations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair building systems, equipment, machinery, and vehicles across Aleut Ventures operations on Adak.
• Perform general plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and facilities repairs to keep the Adak Inn and other assigned locations safe and functional.
• Inspect equipment and building systems, identify problems, troubleshoot failures, and complete or recommend appropriate repairs.
• Perform preventive and routine maintenance on vehicles, engines, machinery, and facility systems.
• Diagnose vehicle and engine performance issues using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Build, assemble, repair, clean, and lubricate machinery and components as needed.
• Respond to changing maintenance priorities across the island and resolve issues efficiently with available tools and resources.
• Cross-train in critical areas and support other Aleut Ventures operations as needed.
