About The Position

Here at Global- a 1st Flagship Company (www.globalfirstflagship.com), a woman-owned small business, a leader in Marine Support Services and Emergency Management, serving as the Department of Navy's trusted Prime Contractor since 1964. They manage, operate, and maintain the U.S. Navy Inactive Ship fleet across diverse locations. This role is for a Mechanic I at their Philadelphia site, working on military vessels such as destroyers, aircraft carriers, and other Navy vessels.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Five (5) years of relevant shipboard machinist mechanic experience or equivalent military experience.
  • Valid driver's license and qualification to operate government/company vehicles per the Corporate Fleet Vehicle Safety Manual.
  • Must qualify to wear a respirator.
  • Must know all Standard Operating Procedures pertaining to environmental protection.
  • Must be able to work effectively with co-workers in a professional manner at all times.
  • Must be available to work overtime if required.

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4) years of experience serving in a Navy Engineering rating or Armed Forces Diesel Engine Repair Military Occupational Specialty (MOS).

Responsibilities

  • Skillful in the operation of machines and hand tools necessary to perform repairs in an efficient and economical manner.
  • Knowledgeable in machine and mechanical principles and able to locate sources of defective operation or cause of breakdown.
  • Able to use all hand tools and measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.
  • Good knowledge of blueprints and manufacturers' specifications, to be able to disassemble and repair tools and equipment.
  • Able to instruct Machinist/Mechanic Helper when assigned.
  • Qualify to wear a respirator.
  • May be required to travel up to 25% to conduct company business.
  • Know all Standard Operating Procedures pertaining to environmental protection.
  • Assist in the receipt, moor and departure of vessels.
  • Adhere to all corporate core values, policies and procedures in the execution of all responsibilities.
  • Able to work effectively with co-workers in a professional manner at all times.
  • Available to work overtime if required.
  • May be exposed to sharp edges, fall hazards, hazardous chemicals and conditions, poor illumination and inclement weather.
  • Handle weights to 100 pounds with an average of 50 pounds and carry up to a distance of 200 feet.
