The RDC Maintenance Mechanic I helps keep equipment in the RDC fully operational. This role has specialist knowledge and complex repair capability in a designated area—conveyors, rolling stock, or building—and general knowledge and basic repair capability in the other two areas. The mechanic uses electrical and mechanical knowledge to safely and independently diagnose equipment issues, determine and prioritize repairs, plan work, obtain or order spare parts, and complete repairs. The role may mentor Maintenance Utility associates and seeks assistance from a Maintenance Mechanic II or Maintenance Supervisor when needed. The mechanic maintains required certifications, follows task-specific safety requirements, prepares worksites and performs lock-out/tag-out, uses tools and personal protective equipment safely, and documents work and equipment condition. The role enters information into the 7I computerized maintenance management system, closes out work orders and preventive maintenance requests, and communicates outstanding work to the next shift. Training and continued development cover maintenance systems such as conveyors and controls, industrial electrical systems, HVAC, fire suppression, welding and fabrication, plumbing and carpentry, forklifts and material-handling systems, and preventive-maintenance technologies. Applicable state and local regulations supersede training guidance where required.
