About The Position

Performs skilled mechanical work analyzing and diagnosing problems. Inspects, replaces, and/or repairs defective parts. Performs preventative maintenance on City of Orlando ATV’s, side by sides, tractors, mowers, small engines, and equipment. Assigns and oversees work and training of lower-level mechanics. Performs a variety of tasks requiring specialized knowledge and skills. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness.

Requirements

  • Mechanic Automotive I: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and one (1) year mechanical experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must own a standard set of mechanic tools.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required.
  • Mechanic Automotive II: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and three (3) years of mechanical experience working small pumps, ATV’s, side by sides, tractors, or mowers ; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must be able to read and interpret plans and technical bulletins.
  • Mechanic Automotive III: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and four (4) years of mechanical experience working small pumps, ATV’s, side by sides, tractors, or mowers ; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must satisfactorily complete two (2) ASE Block Tests or meet all passing requirements for four (4) required academic titles from the mechanical listing.
  • Must complete 6,075 hours of on-the-job training, subject to verification by the "Review Board."
  • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree; Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree; Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
