About The Position

Under the direction of the Superintendent of Maintenance, or designate, the Mechanic Helper performs preventive maintenance inspections and general repairs on Company vehicles and equipment. The role includes making service calls, performing shift duties as needed, completing required documents, and accounting for materials used in accordance with work order systems. Other duties may be assigned or required.

This is a safety-sensitive, union position subject to the terms of a Collective Bargaining Agreement. Work takes place in a garage and outdoors, with exposure to loud noises, noxious odors, and inclement weather. Duties may be required 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The position is not eligible for a hybrid schedule or telecommuting. Salary is $35.55 per hour.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalency.
• At least one year of previous experience in diesel and gasoline vehicle repair and/or relevant technical school training.
• Good work history and a safe driving record for three years.
• Attend Pace's Mechanic Training Program and pass the examination for the position.
• Must have, or obtain within 60 days of hire, a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsements.
• Must have or purchase a good starter set of hand tools sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
• Must be able to operate all company equipment and have knowledge of the service area.
• Must be capable of lifting 75 pounds to waist height and maintaining and carrying that weight for a minimum of ten feet.
