About The Position

This position is for a Mechanic Helper (I/R) who will report to the Supervisor in Instrumentation and Regulation (I&R). The individual will be responsible for the inspection, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and periodic overhaul of various distribution facilities. These facilities include, but are not limited to, district regulator stations, city gate stations, and customer worker/monitor pressure regulating devices. The individual will also be responsible for covering calls throughout Eversource's gas territory as assigned and must exhibit strong performance in emergency situations to protect the safe and reliable operation of Eversource's distribution system. The starting rate of pay is $32.88 per hour. This is a union-represented position, and anyone accepting this role will be required to join the union. This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants will be subject to a pre-assignment drug test if currently in a non-safety sensitive position, and will be subject to random drug testing thereafter. Eversource will not offer immigration-related sponsorship for this position.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or the equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of 3.5 years of gas related field experience required.
  • Individual must demonstrate strong interest, aptitude, and knowledge in the following areas (as appropriate to the equipment and facilities for the region): Regulator inspection and gate station operations and maintenance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a commercial driver's license.
  • Must be able to work On-Call and respond to after-hours emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform odorant (sniff) tests as required.
  • Perform regulator maintenance at various district regulator stations as needed.
  • Perform pressure adjustments throughout the distribution system as needed.
  • Inspection and maintenance on emergency shut-down valves as required.
  • Perform odorizer inspection and maintenance at various gate stations as needed.
  • Perform valve repairs at regulation and gate stations as needed.
  • Install, operate, and maintain boilers, panel, and pilot heaters.
  • Purge and pickle gas mains.
  • Assist with pressure-in-place projects or up rates on gas distribution systems.
  • Perform end-point installation.
  • Perform bending, mechanical fittings, and pipe-threading as related to piping and tubing projects.
  • Perform rigging, lifting, and crane operations as needed.
  • Possess basic knowledge of and ability to perform basic control wiring.
  • Perform pressure tests.
  • Ability to work On-Call and to respond to after-hours emergencies.
  • Perform all other miscellaneous tasks/projects within classification as assigned.
  • Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs is part of every employee’s role. If employed, you will be given an Emergency Restoration assignment. This means you may be called to assist during an emergency outside of your normal responsibilities, work hours and location.
