About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Fairbanks International Airport is looking for a Mechanic, Automotive-Advanced-Journey/Lead to help us Keep Alaska Moving! In this role, you will be responsible for performing skilled troubleshooting, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of gasoline- and diesel-powered airport equipment. You will diagnose and resolve performance problems with engines, ignition, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, drivetrain, and steering systems using both traditional mechanical methods and computer-based diagnostic tools. Work will include preventative maintenance, major and minor repairs, complete rebuilds, and fabrication or welding as needed to return equipment to safe and reliable operation. You will also perform machine shop work, roadside and remote service calls, daily inspections, and maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities. This position requires strong technical knowledge, the ability to work independently in varied and sometimes extreme conditions, and the skill to ensure all equipment remains in peak working order to support airport operations.

Requirements

  • Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
  • Flexibility: Open to change and new information; rapidly adapts to new information, changing conditions or unexpected obstacles.
  • Vehicle maintenance knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including their design, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior.
  • Possess a Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with N-Tanker endorsement, or obtain within 120 days of hire.
  • Eligible for an airport identification badge, which requires fingerprinting and a criminal background check.
  • Must pass a fingerprint-based criminal history record check, a comprehensive background investigation, and a TSA Security Threat Assessment.
  • Must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must provide own hand tools.

Responsibilities
