About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Southcoast Region Highways and Aviation/M&O is looking for an Equipment Operator, Journey 3 Lead in Cold Bay to help us Keep Alaska Moving! This position performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. The role is responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. The position must comply with all applicable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of highways and airports. Requirements

  • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road including cost and limits.
  • Knowledge of procedures for operating motor vehicles, including cars, trucks, or watercraft.
  • Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
  • Accurately coordinate one's eyes with one's fingers, wrists, or arms to perform job-related tasks (for example, to move, carry, or manipulate objects).
  • A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire.
  • Must obtain an N-Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
  • Must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures.
  • Must pass the required Pre-Employment drug test.
  • Must submit a current copy of your Commercial Driver's License with endorsements.
  • Must provide three (3) professional references, including name, job title, and current phone numbers.
  • Must register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties, and provide consent to the Employer to review driver information.

Responsibilities

  • Performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport.
  • Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public.
  • Complies with all applicable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of highways and airports.
  • Operates and maintains our airport and highways in all conditions, year around.
  • Plowing snow in near “white-out” conditions.
  • Repairing asphalt.
  • Maintaining airfield lighting and signs.
  • Training for any emergency that may occur.
  • Travel to other stations, possibly for extended periods, during the summer months to complete projects.
