About The Position

Learn to perform and perform mechanical repairs and shop tasks under supervision of TARC Mechanics, Apprenticeship Manager, and Maintenance Training Manager. This position will support a safety and customer service culture through programs, procedures, and other related work to achieve TARC’s mission and strategic outcomes. The position is responsible for meeting or exceeding all TARC policies and procedures with strict adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations; and performing related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Hold or obtain a valid KY or IN driver’s license and CDL permit; Commercial Driver’s License experience preferred.
  • Must be able to read, follow instructions and have the ability to communicate effectively (written and verbally).
  • Pass a physical (medical) examination that includes a drug screen in order to operate TARC vehicles.
  • Successful performance on pre-employment tests.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a DOT Physical including bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, overhead cranes, hydraulic lifts, hoists and jacks, brake lathes and tugs used for pulling disabled buses.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, using appropriate English grammar and syntax.
  • Ability to safety and properly operate a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to user computerized diagnostic equipment.
  • Must have the ability to safely and properly operate a coach or other vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial Driver’s License experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete state apprenticeship requirements surround classroom and on-the-job training to learn how to properly and safely perform daily mechanic tasks.
  • Assist mechanics with lifting and maneuvering heavy parts and components and other vehicle maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Diagnose, examine and investigate vehicles to determine causes of defective operation of engines, transmissions, differential units, starters, pumps, air suspension systems, pneumatic systems, radiators, injectors and other vehicle components.
  • Determine proper course of action to facilitate vehicle repair, maintenance, adjustment and component replacement.
  • Maintains, adjusts and/or repairs all bus systems, components, and parts including hydraulic, brakes, and front ends to ensure the operational fitness of coaches.
  • Disassembles simple components and clean parts for reassembly.
  • Performs minor body repair.
  • Request parts and tools for mechanics as needed.
  • Check and adjust fluid levels as needed.
  • Clean shop floors, driveways, tools, and equipment.
  • Operate buses (move buses into shop areas and around property for repair).
  • Operates company truck to make road repairs.
  • Complete work orders and other documents legibly and accurately.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques in performing tasks.
  • Operate tools and machinery relating to bus repair.
  • Comply to company policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
