About The Position

Gelson’s is hiring a Meat Clerk to support the daily operations of its meat department in West Los Angeles. The role involves helping maintain pricing, stocking and rotating merchandise, and providing customers with a seamless shopping experience. The Meat Clerk helps keep department cases and displays clean, organized, well-stocked, and appealing while monitoring product freshness and quality. The position also includes wrapping, weighing, and pricing meat and related products, assisting with merchandise receiving, and following company, safety, sanitation, and health regulations. The employee should be flexible and ready to take on other responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Strong multitasking skills.
Ability to lift and move heavy items and stand for extended periods.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Continuous hand manipulation, including grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
Ability to reach above and at shoulder level; stand, walk, and bend for up to 7 hours per day; and frequently lift and carry 50 to 75 pounds.
Ability to drive moving equipment, including a forklift or power jack.
Ability to work near hazardous equipment, including a band saw, grinder, and knives.
Ability to work with exposure to noise and temperature extremes in coolers and freezers.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience in a grocery retail setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist shoppers with product inquiries, locating items, and customer concerns.
Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of meat cases.
Collaborate with the team to implement merchandising strategies.
Keep refrigerated coolers, shelves, and displays adequately stocked.
Wrap, weigh, and price meat and related products processed in the department.
Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and help control damaged goods.
Assist with receiving and unloading merchandise.
Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation, and remove expired items.
Comply with company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.
Follow safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Take on responsibilities as needed and perform other duties as required.
