The Safety Intern will help transition the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) from its current Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). The updated standard provides a consistent approach to classifying chemicals and communicating hazards through labels and safety data sheets, helping workers understand how to handle and use hazardous chemicals safely. The intern may also assist MDT Safety Consultants with specialized training, jobsite safety inspections, and accident investigations as needed. This is a summer internship based in Helena, with travel to MDT districts throughout Montana required for up to 50% of the position. The schedule is 40 hours per week for 90 days during summer 2027; daily schedules vary according to the duties of the day. The intern will not receive benefits such as paid holidays or medical coverage.
