About The Position

Clovis Community College is seeking two Mathematics Instructors for a one-year, full-time temporary position. This role involves teaching mathematics courses and supporting students from diverse backgrounds. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion in their instructional practices.

Requirements

  • Master's in mathematics or applied mathematics; or Bachelor's in either of the above and master's in statistics, physics or mathematics education; or A valid California Community College Credential; or The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

Nice To Haves

  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds including students with disabilities.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.
  • Related work and professional experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students.
  • Teaching experience in the breadth of courses taught and the use of a variety of pedagogies.
  • Familiarity with the current curriculum and assessment standards in mathematics education as stated by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the American Math Association of Two Year Colleges (AMATYC).
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Incorporate elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
  • Engage and support racially minoritized students through instructional, relational, and classroom practices.
  • Provide high-quality instruction and support to students using computers and other technologies.
  • Teach mathematics courses at the secondary or post-secondary level.
  • Integrate educational technology into classroom instruction.
  • Serve on campus committees.
  • Participate in the accreditation process.
