Mathematics Departent Instructor or Assistant Professor
About The Position
North Greenville University is seeking applications for a full-time teaching position in the Department of Mathematics, starting in January 2027. The role involves teaching developmental and introductory math topics, with an interest in mid-to-upper-level specialties also welcomed. The position is primarily in-person, traditional format, though occasional online sections may be beneficial. A key requirement is the ability to integrate biblical faith into the teaching discipline, as North Greenville University is a teaching university affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. Faculty are expected to be orthodox Christians, role models in piety and ethics, maintain active evangelical congregation membership, and mentor students academically and spiritually. They must teach in accordance with the university's Statement on Human Flourishing and the Baptist Faith & Message 2000, abstaining from illegal drugs and beverage alcohol.
Requirements
- An earned master’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics (18+ credits of graduate math) from an accredited institution.
- An established academic record of organization and time management.
- Excellent communication skills, especially with young college students.
- The ability to integrate biblical faith in the teaching discipline.
- Demonstrated teamwork and collaborative skills.
- Willingness to teach a combination of developmental and introductory math topics (such as algebra, trigonometry, statistics, or calculus).
- Orthodox Christian faith with a strong personal faith in Jesus Christ.
- Willingness to be a role model in piety and ethics.
- Active membership in an evangelical congregation.
- Willingness to mentor students academically and spiritually.
- Willingness to teach in accordance with the university's Statement on Human Flourishing.
- Willingness to affirm an understanding of, and not teach contrary to, the Baptist Faith & Message 2000.
- Willingness to abstain from illegal drugs and beverage alcohol.
- Agreement to abide by the employee and faculty handbooks, including community standards agreements.
Nice To Haves
- Classroom teaching experience is preferred.
- Interest in teaching a mid-to-upper-level specialty (such as geometry, numerical analysis, or mathematical statistics).
- Willingness to teach occasional online sections is beneficial but not necessary.
Responsibilities
- Cover a full teaching load in the Department of Mathematics.
- Serve on faculty committees as assigned.
- Assist the department and school leadership with curriculum and assessment design.
- Advise math majors as assigned by the math chair.
- Attend and contribute to department meetings and university faculty meetings.
- Assist the department as needed in planning the course offering and schedule.
- Assist with faculty searches including adjunct coverage when necessary.
- Maintain office hours.
- Participate in campus events (e.g. chapel, convocations, graduation, preview days, etc.).
- Develop professionally through appropriate reading and scholarship.
- Intentionally and explicitly integrate the Christian faith with teaching and scholarship.
- Model genuine Christian faith in and beyond the workplace.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the dean and associate dean.
