About The Position

Math Corps is hiring a Math Tutor to support students in grades K–3 at James S. Evans Elementary School. Tutors work with groups of up to three students for 20–30 minutes of math practice, moving between groups throughout the school day. They help students strengthen their math skills and confidence using proven activities, with training and ongoing coaching provided. Tutors also support students as they return to their classrooms and encourage them as they learn.

The position runs from September 2026 through June 2027. The standard schedule is 32 hours per week, with fewer hours during weeks that include holidays or school release days. Work takes place during daytime school hours, Monday through Friday, with no weekends. Part-time positions of 25 and 18 hours per week are also available. Full-time AmeriCorps members receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks; stipend amounts and education awards are described on the organization’s careers page.

Requirements

• Be dependable and have a history of good attendance.
• Be able to follow instructions and make improvements based on feedback.
• Have basic computer skills, such as using email and navigating online.
• Be fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing.
• Be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent by the start of service.
• Be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident.

Responsibilities

• Be a caring adult focused on helping children thrive.
• Lead tutoring sessions and follow a schedule to ensure students receive support.
• Track student progress and meet regularly with the school's on-site coach.
• Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores in data software.
• Commit to personal growth through coaching and training.
• Share the tutoring experience with the community.
• Help students return to their classrooms and transition to the next tutoring group.
