About The Position

Sylvan is seeking a dedicated math tutor to provide personalized instruction to elementary, middle school, and high school students. The role focuses on mathematics through at least Algebra 2 and Geometry and uses learning technology and positive student behavior reinforcement to support student engagement and academic success. Lesson planning, parent meetings, and clerical and administrative requirements are handled by the organization so tutors can focus on teaching.

Tutors set their schedules and may work 6–10 hours per week, ideally across two or more shifts. Instructional hours are Monday through Thursday from 3–7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. This part-time role may suit people pursuing a teaching license, retired teachers, or current teachers seeking additional teaching hours.

Requirements

• Experience tutoring or teaching math through at least high school Algebra 2 and Geometry.
• Ability to work 6–10 hours per week during the stated instructional hours.
• Proficiency in utilizing learning technology to facilitate instruction and improve student engagement.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse learners.
• Passion for education and commitment to helping students succeed academically.

Nice To Haves

• State-certified teacher with a PEL in Secondary Education, whether working toward it, current, or expired.
• Ability to teach additional high school subjects, including ACT/SAT preparation; higher salary is offered for this ability.
