About The Position

Pleasant Hill School District seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Math Teacher 6-12. This position is responsible for providing educational services in mathematics to a variety of students in a classroom setting. The teacher instructs students, maintains student discipline, and is responsible for student academic achievement.

Requirements

A valid state of Oregon teaching license, or the ability to get one
Successfully pass fingerprinting, criminal, Oregon Department of Education, and TSPC background checks.
Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) required
Ability to communicate fluently in English, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from parents, students, colleagues and administration.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases.
Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use e-mail, spreadsheets, internet and word processing software, and other software programs as determined by the District.
Ability to type accurately and and proficiently.
Demonstrated knowledge of child growth and development at each level of instruction and of the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of adolescent students.
Possesses knowledge of effective behavior management methods.
Ability to meet time lines and exercise good judgment while working in a dynamic environment.
Must have a valid teacher's license and Math endorsement(s) through the Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC)
Must have a CPR/First Aid Card.

Nice To Haves

Advanced Math and Physics endorsements preferred
AP or College Now authorization preferred, or ability to become authorized
Master’s degree (M.A. or M.S.) strongly preferred.
Prior successful experience teaching adolescent students in a school setting strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies) and procedures.
Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the District.
Plans a program of study in Mathematics that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
Makes learning visible through effective student engagement.
Integrates technology to support effective instruction, student learning, and classroom management.
Reflects on daily instruction and utilizes research-based best practices to modify practices for greater student outcomes and effective classroom management.
Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s).
Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Instructs students and assigns relevant homework.
Grades papers, assignments, and assessments promptly and accurately.
Prepares and administers subject/topical specific tests to measure student abilities and progress.
Prepares report cards and progress reports.
Facilitates conferences with students and parents.
Completes required paperwork in specified time and manner.
Designs and implements appropriate Mathematics instruction of subject assigned in accordance with students' needs, District curriculum, and state standards.
Conducts appropriate assessments of students' work and maintains accurate and regular data on students in areas of attendance, grades, and IEP progress, if applicable.
Supervises students in hallways before, after and between classes, in library, at bus areas, and at special events, ensuring safety and security.
Assists the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of their students through conferences, written messages, telephone calls, and/or e-mail.
Uses a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintains such records as required by law and by District policy.
Takes all responsible precautions to provide for health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, materials and facilities.
Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours, as required.
Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, curriculum, and instructional methods.
Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community members, staff, and students.
Adheres to all standards established by Teachers Standards and Practices Commission for Competent and Ethical Educators.
Complies with applicable District, state, local, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
Attends work regularly and is punctual.
Attends in-service trainings.
Attends staff meetings.
Substitutes for other teachers, as necessary.
Participates in school and District level committees.
Reports issues to authorities as necessary, animal control, suspicious activity, etc.
