(2026-2027) Part-Time Math Special Education Teacher - Grades 6-8
About The Position
Alma del Mar is a K-8 charter school with a mission to prepare scholars for college and to foster service-minded leadership through a demanding, supportive, and content-rich educational environment. As an Expeditionary Learning school, Alma focuses on knowledge and skills mastery, character development, and high-quality student work. Located in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Alma scholars demonstrate academic performance that often surpasses district and suburban peers, with national recognition for its work with English Language Learners. The Part-Time Math Specialist role involves planning and delivering effective math interventions for students with IEPs, both within and outside the general education classroom. This role requires close collaboration with curriculum area teachers and the academic support team to design instruction that promotes scholar learning. Building strong relationships with Alma families is also a key aspect of the position. The school offers support while allowing autonomy in instructional decisions and is committed to supporting the professional growth and career goals of its staff. The schedule is flexible within the school day, ranging from 24 hours per week (0.6 FTE) up to full-time.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree or higher
- At least one year of full time teaching experience is required
- Proven effectiveness leading students to significant academic gains (please include specific data related to your student's academic gains in your resume)
- Massachusetts DESE Licensure in moderate disabilities or as a math specialist is required.
- A passion for working with kids and a belief that all kids can succeed
Nice To Haves
- Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
Responsibilities
