About The Position

Community Academies of New Orleans (CANO) is seeking a Math/Science Instructor to deliver classroom instruction that helps students learn. This role involves preparing effective lessons, grading student work and offering feedback, managing classroom materials, navigating the math and science curriculum, and collaborating with other staff. The instructor will uphold the mission and values of CANO, plan and coordinate programs, provide student evaluation, build rapport with students, accept feedback, participate in planning, prepare students for assessments, and engage in classroom management. The role also requires staying current with Louisiana Department of Education requirements.

  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to participate in professional development and instructional best practices
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 75% of the workday while instruction is going forth.
  • Able to occasionally move about inside the classroom and school building to monitor students productivity, and behavior daily
  • Occasionally ascend stairs to migrate throughout the workspace

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of Eureka Mathematics Curriculum and Science Curriculum
  • Two or more years of teaching experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Planning and implementing class lessons that ensure the attainment of state learning standards and the additional specific grade-by-grade learning standards.
  • Upholding the mission and values of Community Academies of New Orleans in all student and family interactions to ensure our commitment is promoting academic excellence and success.
  • Planning and coordinating programs with the faculty and administration.
  • Providing ongoing student evaluation through regularly scheduled grade reporting and parent conferences.
  • Establishing and building great rapport with students to provide a great and exciting learning environment.
  • Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff.
  • Actively participate in strategic long- and short-term planning addressing individual needs of students.
  • Prepare students adequately for all required assessments.
  • Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management.
  • Remain current on ongoing developments and requirements from the Louisiana Department of Education relative to school accountability, assessment, and curriculum.
