About The Position

The Department of Mathematics at UW-Madison is seeking a Learning Center Coordinator to join our Math Learning Center team. This position offers a dynamic and collaborative work environment including a broad range of challenging and varied responsibilities. The MLC Coordinator position functions as a first point of contact for students and student workers in the Math Learning Center (MLC). In this role, the coordinator engages daily with tutors and students seeking academic support, providing guidance and addressing problems as they occur. A primary responsibility of the person in this role is to coordinate and manage scheduling for approximately 70 undergraduate student employees and 30 graduate students across 5 different MLC services as well as timesheet approval for the undergraduate employees. The coordinator also serves as the direct supervisor for approximately 7-10 MLC Front Desk student employees. Under the direction of the Director of the Math Learning Center, the person in this role will conduct independent work and provide data-driven recommendations for enhancing critical administrative operations in the Math Learning Center. This detail-oriented position requires excellent administrative, organizational, communication (verbal, written, and electronic), and leadership skills as well as computer proficiency. It requires considerable professionalism, confidentiality, independent initiative, sound judgement, analytic ability, and problem-solving skills. The successful candidate will have the ability to manage competing priorities as well as the ability to work independently in dealing with a diverse workload with frequent interruptions and varied responsibilities. This position is 100% onsite.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience planning and executing business meetings and similar events (e.g. training sessions, coordinated group meetings, etc.)
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and Google suite for coordinating and processing work activities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures, and levels of education

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in an academic or learning support setting
  • Prior experience with Humanity or other scheduling software

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, designs, plans, delivers, and evaluates academic support center programming and student resources
  • Identifies and refers students to appropriate institutional resources and follows-up on referrals
  • Schedules logistics and secures resources for academic support center programming
  • Coordinates and supports delivery of center programs, including application processing and intake/center program offering-related advising, in support of quality delivery of student support services
  • Assists students in assessing their interests, skills, and values; and assists with processing applications to match appropriate fields of study and career options
  • Provide supervisory authority for front desk student workers
  • Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college
