About The Position

Consor is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our Construction Services team as a Materials Laboratory Technician . This position focuses primarily on laboratory testing of construction materials in support of heavy civil transportation and infrastructure projects. The Materials Laboratory Technician plays a critical role in ensuring construction materials meet project specifications and industry standards. This position performs standardized laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt; documents results; and supports engineers and project managers with accurate, timely data. A strong attention to detail, commitment to safety, and adherence to established testing procedures are essential for success.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in construction materials testing or laboratory work preferred
  • Familiarity with construction documentation and testing procedures is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized procedures
  • High school diploma required; an associate degree or coursework in civil engineering, construction technology, or materials science is preferred.
  • Valid Utah Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • 1–2 years of experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical lab work, or civil construction services
  • Familiarity with ASTM and AASHTO standards
  • Entry-level certifications such as:
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade I
  • NICET Level I – Construction Materials Testing
  • Or equivalent certifications

Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Testing Perform laboratory testing of construction materials including:
  • Aggregate gradations
  • Proctor moisture-density relationships
  • Concrete cylinder strength testing
  • Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) testing
  • Conduct tests in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and project-specific procedures
  • Prepare, label, handle, and store material samples properly
  • Documentation & Reporting Accurately record test data and perform required calculations
  • Prepare daily materials testing data sheets and laboratory reports
  • Maintain organized testing records and documentation
  • Collaboration & Quality Support Work closely with engineers, project managers, and fellow technicians to support quality assurance efforts
  • Communicate test results and material concerns professionally and clearly
  • Laboratory & Equipment Maintenance Maintain laboratory testing equipment and tools
  • Follow safety protocols and proper laboratory procedures
  • Keep the laboratory clean, organized, and inspection-ready
