About The Position

This position is responsible for receiving, inventorying, stocking, issuing, handling, and distributing all supplies, equipment, and instrumentation used throughout West Virginia University Hospitals, under the purview of Materials Management. This includes maintaining adequate inventory levels of supplies to support activities for Surgical Services room stock. The role involves using Workday for various transactions, including picking, delivering, issuing, receiving, and stocking, with a strong emphasis on detail and accuracy for inventory management. The attendant also processes returns, restocks inventory, and disposes of outdated or damaged materials. Maintaining high-quality customer service, both over the phone and in person, is crucial. The role requires inspecting and maintaining Code Carts, Code Stretcher Luggage/Bags, and EZIO Kits according to hospital policies. Additionally, the attendant will coordinate with other departments to locate supplies, print and affix patient charge labels, and serve as a resource person for training new employees on handheld devices and for inventory/stocking issues. They will also assist in the orientation and training of new employees and distribute full-service forms throughout the hospital. The shift is afternoons from 2 PM to 10:30 PM, with work required every third weekend and holiday.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and understand English.
  • Math skills necessary to count, inventory and convert each/box/case quantities.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills (both phone and personal).
  • Must be able to work in a high stress environment.
  • Must understand and practice excellent personal hygiene.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English proficiently.
  • Manual dexterity and physical ability to stand, walk and handle materials for prolong periods of time.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 60 pounds and pushing loaded carts weighting in excess of 600 pounds.
  • Must possess visual and oral acuity.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, inventories, stocks, issues, handles, and distributes all supplies, equipment, and instrumentation.
  • Maintains adequate inventory levels of supplies to support activities for Surgical Services room stock.
  • Responds to all requests for supplies and equipment in accordance with departmental policy and procedure.
  • Serves as the initial contact for all departmental inquiries from customers.
  • Performs picking, delivering, issuing, receiving, inventorying, and stocking using Workday and handheld terminals (Zebra Handheld Computers).
  • Processes returns from customers to Inventory Location 1 (House Inventory) and re-stocks to correct bin.
  • Checks for and disposes of outdated, contaminated, damaged, and/or obsolete material.
  • Maintains high quality customer service, both over the phone and in person.
  • Reports urgent or emergency stock shortages to Inventory Control Analyst or direct Supervisor.
  • Inspects Code Carts (aka: E-carts, Emergency carts, Crash carts) to ensure functionality and maintains accurate inventory stock.
  • Maintains accurate inventory stock in Code Stretcher Luggage/Bags, and EZIO Kits.
  • Coordinates with other SPD and Nursing personnel to locate and obtain required centralized equipment and/or supplies.
  • Prints and affixes patient charge labels where applicable.
  • Functions as the resource person for training new Materials Handling Attendants on the use of handhelds.
  • Functions as a resource person for inventory and stocking problems for all areas.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.
  • Receives and distributes full-service forms throughout the hospital.
