About The Position

The Newport Aquarium is seeking a Materials Handler Warehouse Team Lead to operate powered and manual equipment to OSHA/Company safety standards. This role requires excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize and complete work assignments in a fast-paced, multi-functional environment where priorities can change. The Team Lead will maintain and input inventory transfers, be accountable to team members and management, and be reliable to work as scheduled. A key aspect of this role is to display and live out Herschend principles and values: patient, kind, trusting, unselfish, truthful, forgiving, and dedicated. The position requires strong verbal communication skills with a pleasant, professional voice, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and detail. The role involves maintaining facility materials in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion with proper stock rotation, and requires working both indoors and outdoors throughout all seasons. The Team Lead will develop and maintain strong relationships with all departments, perform frequent inventory and counting of product, and load, unload, move, stack, count, and stage materials in appropriate areas. This role supports and supplies departments with required stock for retail and other areas, oversees shipping and receiving procedures, and supervises the loading and unloading of trucks related to merchandise inventory and aquarium deliveries. The Team Lead will check receipts against approved purchase orders and packing lists for the Retail department, ensure proper data entry into the inventory system, and supervise the storage of all merchandise, ensuring products are properly located and easily obtainable. Coordination of dock usage and staging for events and special projects with all departments is also a responsibility, along with daily pick-up and delivery of mail, FedEx, and other small deliveries. The position requires self-motivation, discipline, and reliability, and the performance of other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, build, and motivate a team.
  • Must be able to safely operate warehouse equipment (forklift, pallet jack).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean record in the three (3) most recent years.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Able to provide exceptional customer service and problem solve without assistance.
  • Must be comfortable working with Microsoft office products including Outlook and other inventory management programs.
  • Qualified candidate should have strong organizational skills and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment criminal background check and motor vehicle operator check.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Physical strength, including extended periods of sitting on forklift, lifting of 50 plus pounds, standing for long periods of time, pushing, pulling, bending and stooping.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Three (3) years previous experience in warehouse operations preferred.

  • Perform daily pick-up and delivery of mail, FedEx and other small deliveries.
  • Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned.
