The position combines hands-on composite fabrication with process development and works directly with manufacturing on the shop floor. The engineer is expected to bridge engineering and manufacturing and work with minimal supervision as part of a small, focused team.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Aerospace, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated hands-on composite fabrication experience.
  • Familiarity with composite manufacturing processes such as dry fiber layup, prepreg layup, vacuum bagging, resin infusion, or RTM.
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings, work instructions, and process specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and critical-thinking skills, with a commitment to workmanship quality.
  • Problem-solving mindset and willingness to work on the shop floor and collaborate effectively with technicians and engineers.

  • Proficiency in 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA (3DX) or SolidWorks.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize composite manufacturing processes for propeller blade fabrication, including dry fiber layup, resin transfer molding (RTM), vacuum bagging, curing, demolding, and post-cure operations.
  • Support RTM process development using injection equipment, including resin system evaluation, injection parameter development, and cure cycle optimization.
  • Perform hands-on composite fabrication in the blade development cell alongside production technicians.
  • Execute laser-projected layup operations using lamination tables.
  • Fabricate batch acceptance test panels to support material qualification and process validation.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, Manufacturing Work Instructions (MWIs), and process specifications for blade manufacturing operations.
  • Interpret and work with engineering drawings and process specifications for composite and bonded structures.
  • Prepare and maintain molds, tooling, and fixtures used in blade fabrication and development.
  • Plan, execute, and report materials and process testing for material qualification and process validation, including Incoming Resin Testing (IRT), DSC (Tg and degree of cure), FTIR, and mechanical coupon testing.
  • Specify, install, and validate Composite Test Lab equipment, and write test methods and SOPs for the equipment.
  • Record and analyze process data, document and communicate non-conformances, and support root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities.
