About The Position

The Material Takeoff Specialist plays a critical role in supporting Central States’ sales team by producing accurate, detailed material takeoffs and component lists for metal roofing and siding systems. This role focuses on interpreting construction drawings, defining material scope, and generating precise part lists to support timely and accurate project proposals. This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to read and interpret construction documents, and proficiency in takeoff and drafting-related software. The Material Takeoff Specialist works closely with Sales (TSMs) and internal teams to ensure project requirements are clearly understood and accurately translated into material lists.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience reading and interpreting construction drawings.
  • Proficiency with take-off or drafting-related software (TopView, AppliCad X, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Basic knowledge of construction methods, materials, and terminology.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Flexibility to work occasional overtime as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational or technical degree in drafting, construction technology, or related field.
  • Experience performing material takeoffs for metal roofing, siding or similar building systems.
  • Familiarity with shop drawings and installation methods for metal building products.
  • Two or more years of experience using takeoff or construction software.
  • Experience collaborating with sales teams or customer-facing roles.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed takeoffs and layouts using software such as TopView, AppliCad X, or AutoCAD.
  • Support the sales team with accurate and comprehensive component lists to facilitate proposals and project planning.
  • Interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and project specifications to determine material scope and fitment for Central States’ products.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external customers to clarify project details, scope, and limitations.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are consistently met.
  • Provide timely updates on project status and identify any scope or design discrepancies.
  • Learn and utilize additional software tools to support Engineering, Marketing, Product Management, and other company initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency and consistency in takeoff processes.
  • Performs other duties and activities related to the department as necessary to support overall operations and responsibilities, even if not specifically listed above.
