About The Position

Under semi-direct supervision, this role involves receiving vendor shipments, verifying their correctness, and checking for damage. The Material Receiver is responsible for preparing necessary receiving documents and related paperwork, determining if claims inspection is required for damaged shipments, and advising supervision. This position also involves developing data for Irregularity Reports, preparing proper receiving documents, signing and documenting common carrier freight bills, determining proper material location, and storing received materials properly. Additionally, the role assists with other distribution center tasks such as issuing material and related paperwork, operating automotive equipment for transporting materials, and maintaining a clean and orderly work area. The Material Receiver must perform duties in accordance with company procedures, practices, and safety rules, report irregularities, and may be required to instruct, direct, and train other employees.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least two years of satisfactory stores experience.
  • Must have satisfactorily performed the duties of Material Handler-A.
  • Ability to pack and store material.
  • Good working knowledge of materials and supplies carried in the distribution center.
  • Ability to write legibly and record accurately.
  • Familiarity with freight regulations and claims procedures.
  • Must have the ability operate the computer systems utilized by the Material Services Organization.
  • Ability to operate Company cars and trucks; must maintain a valid automotive operator license.
  • May be assigned the duties of a Distribution Center Truck driver when necessitated by operational conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and check all vendor shipments, verify correctness of item count, and check for damage, having driver note any damage on delivery bill.
  • Determine if claims inspection is required for damaged shipment received, and advise supervision.
  • Develop data for Irregularity Reports as required.
  • Prepare proper receiving documents for all incoming shipments as required.
  • Sign and document all common carrier freight bills.
  • Determine proper material location for material received, and prepare and store it properly.
  • Assist with other work in the distribution center, such as the issuing of material and related paperwork.
  • Operate automotive equipment and its auxiliary equipment (excluding large tractor-trailer truck) used in transporting materials and equipment, performing the necessary loading and unloading involved.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform duties in accordance with the Company procedures, practices, and safety rules.
  • Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
  • Instruct and direct the work of employees assigned to assist.
  • Assist in the training of other employees.
  • Assist employees of equal or higher classification.
  • Perform similar or less skilled work, as assigned.
