Material Planner

Base Power Company•Austin, TX

About The Position

Base is an American power company developing a network of distributed batteries to strengthen the electricity grid. The Material Planner is responsible for material availability across Base’s vertically integrated factories, balancing inventory health, cost, and production velocity. This high-ownership role involves creating end-to-end planning strategies for critical components and assemblies, converting production plans and engineering changes into actionable supply signals, holding suppliers accountable, and developing planning systems and processes that support manufacturing growth. Working across Manufacturing, Engineering, Procurement, Quality, Logistics, Finance, and Accounts Payable, the Material Planner supports production, engineering builds, ramp events, new part introductions, and product transitions. The role calls for strong supply-chain fundamentals, analytical rigor, process improvement skills, and a willingness to build durable infrastructure from first principles. Base strongly prefers candidates who can use agentic tools to improve planning and solve complex problems. The Supply Chain team sources battery cells, assembles high-capacity packs, and develops vendor partnerships to deliver home battery systems at scale. The role contributes to strategic sourcing, domestic manufacturing ramp-up, supplier relationships, and Base’s mission of advancing energy abundance. Base is a startup where priorities may change, and responsibilities may evolve with business needs. The company works in person and describes its pace as not a 9-to-5.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations, Finance, or a related quantitative field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in material planning, supply-chain operations, manufacturing, or a closely related role in a hardware or industrial environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems in discrete manufacturing environments, including BOMs, part lifecycles, and procure-to-pay workflows.
  • Fundamental knowledge of core supply-chain principles and motivation to apply them to develop impactful optimizations.
  • Strong sense of ownership and ability to see problems through to measurable results.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex datasets, identify risk, and drive clear operational decisions under tight timelines.
  • Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration and supplier execution in fast-paced, evolving environments.
  • Clear, structured communication skills and ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Alignment with Base’s operating principles, including ownership, bias to action, and willingness to challenge legacy supply-chain assumptions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with manufacturing ERP systems and manufacturing execution systems.
  • Ability to use agentic tools to build, test, and streamline planning workflows and analyses and solve complex problems, alongside supply-chain judgment.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical assemblies containing a mixture of off-the-shelf and custom-manufactured components, including components built by large contract manufacturers.

Responsibilities

  • Own material planning and execution for assigned commodities, components, or assemblies supporting production, engineering builds, and ramp events.
  • Translate production demand into executable supply plans through ERP, balancing service levels, inventory targets, and cost objectives.
  • Design, manage, and refine planning system parameters and master data to reflect supply-chain capabilities and constraints.
  • Lead material readiness for engineering changes, new part introductions, and product transitions while minimizing obsolescence and production-line risk.
  • Deliver clear-to-build status, material coverage views, run-out risk assessments, and scenario analyses to inform production and leadership decisions.
  • Apply analytical rigor to inventory strategy, safety-stock sizing, and EOQ optimization across suppliers and production phases.
  • Serve as the primary operational interface for assigned suppliers, driving delivery performance, resolving shortages, and escalating issues cross-functionally as needed.
  • Partner with Procurement, Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Logistics, and Accounts Payable to resolve constraints and enforce execution discipline.
  • Support supplier ramp-up for new programs and production phases, ensuring operational readiness and adherence to Base standards.
  • Develop, improve, and implement planning processes, tooling, and reporting as Base scales its factories and product lines.
