About The Position

The Material Planner/Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing direct and indirect materials within quality specifications and pricing guidelines. This role involves generating and implementing a robust sourcing and category management model to drive value for the company. Direct materials are defined as anything used in production at internal and external facilities, while indirect materials include MRO, lab supplies and services, engineering, warehouse, and office supplies. Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in a business or management field or equivalent 5+ years of related work experience.
  • Proven work experience as a sourcing leader and/or similar procurement positions.
  • Proven experience in RFQ creation.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Proven supplier management experience.
  • Understanding of market dynamics and how to find new suppliers.
  • Comfortable collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data.
  • Solid judgment with the ability to make good decisions that will enhance business results.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
  • Ability to lift to 30lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Consolidate requirements and develop the most suitable purchasing methods (e.g., spot purchase orders, contracts, blanket orders, supplier stocking arrangements).
  • Identify cost savings opportunities through data mining of internal data and spending trends; source, negotiate, and purchase materials, ensuring timeliness and quality.
  • Gain familiarity with end uses of commodities to identify alternative sources for pharmaceutical packaging components and cross-train on direct and indirect materials.
  • Conduct requests for quotations (RFQs) and negotiate a wide range of packaging and other materials.
  • Order samples for new products, choose and qualify suppliers, and work closely with Product Development to identify alternative sources, maintaining detailed records of sourcing results.
  • Prepare and distribute spend metrics at predetermined intervals.
  • Advise management on market conditions and supplier base activity that could affect pricing and/or delivery.
  • Perform and/or participate in supplier audits for existing approved and potential new suppliers of packaging components.
  • Create contractual agreements with key suppliers to ensure fulfillment of supply requirements with high-quality goods.
  • Develop and maintain a category management strategy for effective supplier management, focusing on high-quality materials and services, improved lead times, and margin-enhancing pricing.
  • Create an alternative sourcing plan for key packaging components.
  • Build an analysis tool to assess the risk vs. benefit of alternative packaging sourcing, sole sourcing, internal cost, and cost savings.
  • Manage supplier relationships by working with Supply Chain planners to identify key suppliers and implement supplier management programs to improve quality, delivery timeliness, cost, and performance.
  • Develop KPIs and scorecards for quarterly supplier performance reviews.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and improvements.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
