About The Position

This position supports the department by repairing, maintaining, and tracking a wide range of small equipment and tools. Performs in-house repairs on items such as nozzles, hydrant gates, couplings, PPV fans, pumps, chainsaws, rotary saws, generators, and departmental small appliances (e.g., coffee makers). Also maintains and monitors a small inventory of repair parts. Oversees the repair process for equipment requiring external service, including fire extinguishers, chainsaws, rotary saws, and generators. When items cannot be repaired in-house, the employee will transport equipment to and from authorized service centers. Operates departmental vehicles as needed, including pickup trucks for deliveries and supply pickups. Also serves as a backup driver for established delivery routes, which includes operating a box truck. Warehouse responsibilities include moving pallets, stocking shelves, performing cycle counts, and supporting other logistics or warehouse tasks as assigned. Participates in a rotating on-call schedule to provide after-hours logistics support. During major incidents or emergencies, the employee may be deployed to emergency incident scenes, the Department Operations Center (DOC), or the county Emergency Operations Center (EOC). While activated, the employee performs duties within the Logistics Section under the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS). Responsibilities include operating within the Supply Unit, procuring goods and services using both routine and emergency procurement processes, and maintaining thorough documentation, reports, and audit records throughout the emergency period.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or a G.E.D. issued by a state department of education
  • Two years of experience procuring or issuing and receiving equipment or performing accounts payable functions
  • Ability to verbally communicate via telephone or in person
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds
  • Visual acuity and ability to work with small hand tools
  • Ability to perform all required tasks including lifting, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and an automated purchasing/inventory management system
  • Driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Monitors receiving, storage and issuance of supplies and equipment (small accounts)
  • Serves as department's Property Manager for accountable equipment
  • Plans and monitors staging areas
  • Audits and analyzes inventory to ensure availability and to minimize cost
  • Performs inventory cycle counts and spots checks to ensure inventory accuracy
  • Places orders for stock/supply replenishment and sets automated controls
  • Utilizes purchasing application software, procurement cards, and vendor online catalog to generate purchase orders
  • Contacts vendors to expedite and coordinate deliveries and resolve discrepancies
  • Plans delivery schedule and routing
  • Enters invoices in Accounts Payable application software
  • Researches and/or solicits vendor prices and availability quotes
  • Monitors vendor contract performance and reports discrepancies to supervisor
  • Maintains detailed purchasing, receiving and issue records using automated procurement system
  • Trains subordinates of standard purchasing, inventory procedures, and warehouse safety procedures
  • May provide limited supervision of warehouse staff
  • Coordinates maintenance and repair of vehicles, equipment, and facility
