About The Position

Under the guidance of a lead Shipping/Receiving/Stockroom employee, this role is responsible for performing a variety of manual and clerical duties essential for the accurate and timely receipt, packaging, labeling, shipping, and distribution of materials and products through the Company Stockroom and Shipping departments. Typical duties include identifying, counting, checking, logging, weighing, and validating incoming and outgoing products and materials to properly package, distribute, and/or store them, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. The role involves moving, loading, unloading, storing, and retrieving materials using equipment like hand trucks, dollies, and forklifts. Accurate and timely processing of shipping and material documents, initiating requisitions for supplies, maintaining safety stock, purchasing materials, managing back-order files, and obtaining signatures for deliveries are also key responsibilities. The position requires verifying items against documentation, reporting discrepancies, and following specific packing procedures. Additional duties may include general clerical work, light typing, checking items, and driving a company van.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent in order to understand and use commercial English and basic Mathematics where accuracy is important.
  • Familiarity with material handling documents and basic Shipping/Receiving procedures normally gained with a minimum of 1 year of experience.
  • Ability to perform general clerical duties that require basic computer skills.
  • Successful background in warehousing and inventory control/management.
  • Awareness of compliance fundamentals.
  • Functional in ERP systems and database management.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to work long hours in an open warehouse environment.
  • Computer-literate Windows-based systems: understanding of ERP (enterprise resources planning) modules related to driving inventory and the MS Office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, count, check, log, weigh, and validate incoming and outgoing products and materials.
  • Properly package, distribute, and/or store items, ensuring compliance with all military, customer, state, federal, and customer regulations.
  • Move, load and unload, store and retrieve materials, supplies, parts, raw stock, etc., potentially using hand trucks, dollies, and forklift trucks.
  • Provide accurate and timely processing and disposition of all shipping and material documents, including purchase orders, receiving reports, freight bills, packing slips, invoices, routing tags, bills of lading, and damaged goods records.
  • Initiate and prepare requisitions for standard supplies and materials based on established inventory levels or department requests.
  • Obtain required approvals and check the price and delivery of locally purchased material.
  • Maintain safety stock of critical supplies as necessary.
  • Purchase materials via company account on petty cash and execute all associated paperwork, including vouchers, receipts, purchase orders, etc.
  • Maintain the back-order file and follow up.
  • Obtain proper authorization signature for deliveries, and record and return all receipts.
  • Verify items to be shipped or received against information contained in Shipping/Receiving documents.
  • Notify supervisor of damage, improper quantity, or other discrepancies.
  • Follow standard instructions in the selection of proper use of packing materials and packing procedures in accordance with Military, Air Transport Association or special customer specifications, if applicable.
  • Perform a variety of related shipping and receiving duties that may include general clerical work, light typing, checking items shipped or received, driving a company van, etc.
