About The Position

Global Connections to Employment (GCE) is a nationwide team providing jobs for people with significant disabilities, including our war-wounded veterans. Since its establishment in 1986, GCE has helped match team members to fulfilling careers, from custodial services to facilities maintenance and food services, plus other business lines in between. Working with customers from the U.S. military, commercial business and community partners – as well as federal, state and local governments – GCE is one of the country’s largest private employers of persons with disabilities. The Material Handling Laborer will perform physical tasks to transport or store materials or merchandise. Duties involve one or more of the following: manually loading or unloading freight cars, trucks, or other transporting devices; unpacking, shelving, or placing items in proper storage locations; or transporting goods by hand trucks, carts, or wheelbarrows.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year in warehouse environment/area including inventory control and distribution or related custodial experience.
  • Ability to safely perform the essential functions.
  • Physical ability to perform general tasks detailed in the assigned contract(s).
  • Must know and understand organizational safety procedures and equipment operation.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license in the state they reside, have a satisfactory driving record, and be insurable under the corporate policy.
  • Meet eligibility requirements for work assignment on the specified contract(s).
  • Must be able to pass organization screening requirements, including state or federal background screenings as appropriate.
  • Bend, crouch, walk, climb stairs and ladders, reach above head.
  • Lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Assist in lifting equipment and move furniture when necessary.
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical tasks to transport or store materials or merchandise.
  • Manually load or unload freight cars, trucks, or other transporting devices.
  • Unpack, shelve, or place items in proper storage locations.
  • Transport goods by hand trucks, carts, or wheelbarrows.
  • Interact appropriately with customers, team members, and government personnel.
  • Follow the Emergency Operations Work Assignment per customer requirements.
