About The Position

Global Connections to Employment (GCE) is a nationwide team providing jobs for people with significant disabilities, including our war-wounded veterans. The Material Handling Laborer will perform physical tasks to transport or store materials or merchandise. Duties involve one or more of the following: manually loading or unloading freight cars, trucks, or other transporting devices; unpacking, shelving, or placing items in proper storage locations; or transporting goods by hand trucks, carts, or wheelbarrows.

Requirements

• Minimum of one (1) year in warehouse environment/area including inventory control and distribution or related custodial experience.
• Ability to safely perform the essential functions.
• Physical ability to perform general tasks detailed in the assigned contract(s).
• Must know and understand organizational safety procedures and equipment operation.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license in the state they reside, have a satisfactory driving record, and be insurable under the corporate policy.
• Meet eligibility requirements for work assignment on the specified contract(s).
• Must be able to pass organization screening requirements, including state or federal background screenings as appropriate.
• Bend, crouch, walk, climb stairs and ladders, reach above head.
• Lift up to 40 pounds.
• Assist in lifting equipment and move furniture when necessary.
• Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Perform physical tasks to transport or store materials or merchandise.
• Manually load or unload freight cars, trucks, or other transporting devices.
• Unpack, shelve, or place items in proper storage locations.
• Transport goods by hand trucks, carts, or wheelbarrows.
• Interact appropriately with customers, team members, and government personnel.
• Follow the Emergency Operations Work Assignment per customer requirements.
