About The Position

The Material Handler is responsible for transferring product from inbound trucks to storage areas. This role involves operating an industrial forklift or hand lift to store product by product and lot number, picking up, moving, and positioning materials. The position also includes performing routine equipment servicing, preparing inventory reports, handling ingredients safely according to company quality standards, and communicating with shift managers regarding deliveries and pick-ups. The Material Handler is expected to participate as a member of the team, contributing to team concepts, programs, and policies, and fostering cohesiveness within the team. This role also requires familiarity with Simmons' operating systems and a commitment to supporting them, including communicating concerns and improvement ideas. The position may involve other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work on feet for the entire shift.
  • Must be able to move or lift product weighing up to 75 pounds from floor to height.
  • Must be able to pass and maintain company-issued forklift license/certification.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Eye protection, ear protection, steel toed shoes required.
  • Ability to make good decisions and communicate effectively with others and leadership team.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of production scheduling is a plus.
  • Preference for warehouse setting handling ingredients.
  • Military experience is valued.

Responsibilities

  • Transfer product from inbound trucks to storage areas.
  • Store product by product and lot number using an industrial forklift or hand lift.
  • Operate forklift to pick up, move, place, and position materials or products.
  • Perform routine servicing of equipment, including fueling and checking fluid levels and tires.
  • Notify the maintenance department of any major issues or repairs.
  • Prepare inventory reports and paperwork to monitor and account for inventory by lot and product number.
  • Handle ingredients safely and according to company quality standards.
  • Communicate with shift managers to schedule deliveries and pick-ups.
  • Participate as a member of the Team, fostering cohesiveness and supporting team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Attend appropriate team meetings.
  • Quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness and bring them to the attention of the team leader, working with the team to resolve issues.
  • Reinforce actions needed to achieve synergy within the larger organization.
  • Maintain familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems and understand the role in supporting these systems.
  • Communicate concerns and improvement ideas regarding operating systems.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
