About The Position

The Material Handler provides dependable logistical and project support across DPSCD schools, warehouses, and other assigned facilities. The primary focus is loading, safely transporting, delivering, unloading, staging, and accounting for supplies, materials, furniture, and equipment. The role also includes basic assembly, installation, moving, setup, cleanup, and other facility-support tasks within the employee’s training and ability. The position calls for a responsible, organized, trustworthy self-starter who follows through on assignments, protects District and company property, and works productively with limited supervision. The employee receives delivery and project assignments, plans routes or work sequences, operates assigned vehicles and approved material-handling equipment, and maintains accurate delivery, inventory, vehicle, and work records. Work includes receiving, inspecting, organizing, and inventorying materials; assembling and moving furnishings and equipment; installing basic non-trade items when properly trained; and supporting facility, school, event, relocation, and emergency needs. The employee follows applicable safety, access, security, and site procedures and works with school staff, custodial teams, vendors, students, visitors, and facilities teams. The role requires frequent physical material handling and work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather. The position is on-site in Detroit, Michigan. Occasional early-morning, evening, weekend, emergency, or weather-related assignments may be scheduled or required by operational needs. This position does not provide visa sponsorship; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
