About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Material Handler handles and maintains the flow of materials and products on the premises according to established guidelines. The role involves physically moving materials used to construct components and finished products, operating material-handling equipment, learning work processes through on-the-job training, and following safety procedures. This is an entry-level position with no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Knowledge of and ability to use motorized and non-motorized material-handling equipment.
• Manual dexterity.
• Knowledge of safety procedures while performing materials-handling tasks.
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Physically handle materials used to construct components and finished products, including lifting, carrying, and stacking items to optimize their movement.
• Operate motorized and non-motorized material-handling equipment; some equipment may require specialized training.
• Attend to training from a foreman or more senior handlers to increase knowledge of work processes.
• Understand and observe safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self or coworkers.
• Attend periodic safety meetings as required and may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
