About The Position

This is a full-time position responsible for the safe and efficient operation of material handling equipment. The role involves loading, unloading, processing, and transferring materials while adhering to safety rules and industry standards. The operator will be responsible for pre-operational checks, reporting incidents, preparing materials for shipment, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable and safe operation of assigned equipment to transfer materials during unloading, loading, processing, and transfer to storage.
  • Loading or unloading materials from or to designated vehicles including open top trailers, railcars and roll offs.
  • Highly knowledgeable of material industry standards and grades.
  • Accurate, legible, and timely completion of unload paperwork (Outbound Loading Sheet or Unload Sheets), and/or reports. Secure all loading or unloading photos as required.
  • Attend and complete operator training & certification as requested.
  • Knowledge of various attachments used with assigned material handler such as sling, electromagnet, grapple, or other attachment device.
  • Must be able to push, pull or carry up to thirty pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Must be able to utilize hand tools and operator controls.

Nice To Haves

  • Deeper understanding of WSR 11 Rules of The Road.
  • Ability to prepare unprepared material for shipment.

Responsibilities

  • Follows, uses, implements and strives for deeper understanding of WSR 11 Rules of The Road.
  • Perform and complete quality daily pre-operational (pre-op) checks before each start of the shift. Submit to Steel Yard Supervisor as directed.
  • Knowledgeable and safe operation of assigned equipment to transfer materials during unloading, loading, processing, and transfer to storage.
  • Loading or unloading materials from or to designated vehicles including open top trailers, railcars and roll offs.
  • Report any injury or damage of any kind immediately.
  • Prepare material for weighing and the recording of weight and other necessary product information on labels or tags or other document.
  • Accurate, legible, and timely completion of unload paperwork (Outbound Loading Sheet or Unload Sheets), and/or reports. Secure all loading or unloading photos as required.
  • Attend and complete operator training & certification as requested.
  • Knowledge of various attachments used with assigned material handler such as sling, electromagnet, grapple, or other attachment device.
  • Prepare unprepared material for shipment.
  • Remain aware of surrounding work environment to insure safe operation of equipment around other persons or equipment in the area.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by direct supervisor or department manager.
