About The Position

The Material Handler is responsible for operating various types of forklift and palletizing equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, floor scrubbers, palletizing robots, and shrink wrap machines. This role ensures the efficient operation of equipment, accurate maintenance of paperwork, and adherence to quality and efficiency standards. The Material Handler will follow written and verbal instructions and assume responsibility for safety, quality, and effective communication related to shift and plant performance.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 2 years distribution experience.
  • Ability to operate a forklift with a minimum of 3 or more years of experience.
  • RF Scanner experience.
  • Experience with 100+ SKUs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to solve practical problems.
  • Ability to interpret instructions in various formats (written, oral, schedules, diagrams).
  • Ability to get along well with others, good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to keep operating logs/records.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years’ experience in a food grade facility.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a forklift to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count product.
  • Pull and prepare product for shipment, ensuring accuracy in quantity and type of product loaded and shipped per load sheets.
  • Efficiently move product from staging and/or storage areas into trailers.
  • Operate and maintain accountability for the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle.
  • Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations.
  • Ensure inbound/outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage, reporting any quality variances.
  • Maintain appropriate records and reports for inventory control and security.
  • Assist in physical inventories and proper stock rotation.
  • Perform daily forklift inspections and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Conduct required quality checks to assure standards are met.
  • Maintain a clean and organized area around equipment.
  • Ensure smooth shift transitions through effective communication within the production team.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic to moderate operating difficulties involving area equipment.
  • Pick and load outbound trucks as per paperwork.
  • Unload and put away inbound trucks.
  • Support mechanics in appropriate maintenance activities.
  • Monitor raw packaging material and supplies to ensure efficient supply to production.
  • Maintain ingredients and material on a First Expired First Out (FEFO) basis.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to locate missing packages, fix incorrect deliveries, and replace damaged products.
  • Relieve other production team members for breaks and absences as required.
  • Assist with training of newly employed workers.
  • Accurately prepare and maintain all area paperwork.
  • Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Perform all warehouse sanitation processes with documentation.
  • Follow all plant safety rules and report accidents to the production supervisor.
  • Participate in the plant safety program, including attending safety meetings and monthly inspections.
  • Report any potential safety hazards to the safety committee or Production Supervisor.
  • Adhere to all Quality Assurance System guidelines.
  • Follow SOPs for machine adjustments and truck inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP & SQF programs.
  • Promote and contribute to the development of teamwork among materials team members.
  • Assist in coaching and training employees as requested.
  • Continuously improve knowledge of batch output, other plant areas, and other company warehouses.
