About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Material Handler I handles and maintains the flow of materials and products on the premises according to established guidelines. The position is entry level and includes on-the-job training. Work is performed in a production environment and involves handling materials used to construct components and finished products, using material-handling equipment, and following safety procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to use motorized and non-motorized material-handling equipment.
• Manual dexterity.
• Knowledge of safety procedures for materials-handling tasks.
• Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and, on occasion, up to 80 pounds.
• May be required to perform tasks involving climbing, lifting, pushing, or kneeling.

Responsibilities

• Physically handle materials used to construct components and finished products, including lifting, carrying, and stacking items as needed to optimize movement.
• Operate motorized and non-motorized material-handling equipment; some equipment may require specialized training.
• Attend to training from a foreman or more senior handlers to increase knowledge of work processes.
• Understand and observe safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self or coworkers.
• Attend periodic safety meetings as required and may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
